HOUSE/PRODUCER’S PICK
This was possibly the hardest contest I’ve ever voted on. Most of the finalist mixes were super solid! Here were my choices
#1 AI Mixing Bot
This mix had the overall best tonality to my ear. Nice mix of sheen and fullness. The balances were spot on for my tastes and the subtle use of FX was just right. I really couldn’t find anything that bugged me about this mix!
#2 Zsummerill1176
A very close 2nd compared to my top choice. Awesome mix and a very deserving 1st place finish! Compared to AI Mixing Bot I found this mix lacked just a bit of warmth. For my tastes the low mids were just a bit too scooped, but I must say it was a very clear mix with great midrange presence! Great work here!
#3 Guillaume Bonaventure
I found picking a third place mix really hard! IMO Guillaume’s mix was too thin overall, but it had a big modern punchy sound that eventually won me over. Very good clarity and some cool saturation happening…just missed some fullness to my ear.

MIX CONTEST # 1
Last summer I had the pleasure of producing some songs for a local Ottawa artist named Evan Cecchetto. She’d never done any recording before, but was a quick study and a lot of fun to work with. “Dream boat” was the first song we tackled. This was the first grunge style song I’d ever produced and I thoroughly enjoyed the process – I can’t remember the last time I played bar chords! When the song was almost done Evan agreed to hiring a session drummer which really helped elevate the vibe. Have fun mixing Dream Boat 🙂
