MIX CONTEST #2

I detect a faint hint of bitterness in this tune – idk, maybe it’s just me 😉  I also detect a heavy dollop of awesome, so buckle up and enjoy mixing “Ex Marks The Bitch” by Mango Jaguar, produced by T-M member Orcun Ayata.  IMO, this song doesn’t fit into an obvious style of rock. I get slight vibes from The Strokes and The Black Keys but Orcun informed me that there was really no clear reference for this song – they just did their own thing.  However ya hear it, make sure the mix is bangin!  Go!

IMPORTANT:  The guitar DI’s are included with the stems so feel free to re-amp to your hearts content.  Lots of room for your own creativity here!  BUT, don’t use the DI’s as well as the amp tones provided.  Pick one or the other.

A note from producer Orcun Ayata:

We met with Mango Jaguar when he first reached out to me via an online service platform, and I did a couple of mixes for him. Back then, I was focusing on just mixing and mastering, but after covid happened, I decided to focus more on being a producer. When Stefan reached out to me for another mixing, I told him his songs are amazing, and they have much more potential. We can make them sound amazing if we work on the production together. Recording acoustic drums and getting the feeling from all instruments when working remotely is pretty challenging. It was the first time I recorded drums remotely, but Nate Barnes understood what I wanted to do, and he nailed it with just a couple of takes in 30 minutes. Recording the bass guitar was also so much fun because we experimented with some variations with Pablo Arruda and used some of them in the final record. Unfortunately, when I was exporting the audio files, I realized I had made some editing mistakes, but I wasn’t hearing them because of the amount of distortion I was using. It’s up to you to fix it or not to fix it. I also included DI recordings of the guitar channels so you can experiment with them if you want to.
